comScore, the main company that tracks handheld device sales in the United States released its report for July this week and among its numbers is a sign that Google's Android powered smart phones are slowly taking over the market. Sales surged from just over 36% of all smart phones sold in April to almost 42% in July. Meanwhile, number two, Apple's iPhone showed scant improvement, growing from 26% to 27%.

Why Android Phones are Outselling iPhones

Currently just one manufacturer sells phones with the Apple OS operating on it, and that is the iPhone. Android powered phones on the other hand come from a whole host of hardware manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, and Motorola, which means that Apple's iPhone is actually competing with a whole list of other brands. The problem for Apple here is that its product could very well diminish to a niche market just as its computers did during the early years of the IBM PC; a problem that has plagued Apple right up to this very day.
