Phone Call Internet Free

Google announced a free internet call program at the end of August 2010. Using the Gmail chat box, Gmail users can make free unlimited calls to the U.S. and Canada, at least for the rest of the 2010 year. Calls to other countries will be billed at very low rates. Millions of users with Gmail accounts can now make free telephone calls from their web browser without the need to install any software onto their computers.

VOIP Calling

The Google Call service directly competes with other affordable voip internet call services (Voice Over IP.) The market leader of voip, Skype, currently holds 13% of all international call minutes. Insiders predict that Google is trying to capture a slice of the VOIP market and by offering its service for free, it is attempting to provide familiarity of their product with current Gmail users. Non technical users do not require to install any software on their computers in order to use Google Call, and can start making free phone calls instantly.

It is currently unclear if the Google call service will continue to remain free after 2010. Google has shown an interest in all aspects of telecommunications in the last few years. They created and managed the Android operating system for smartphones, they have been operating the Google Voice service, and since 2005 they have offered a free chat and VOIP program as a download -- Google Talk.

The move to offer the same type of VOIP service but without requiring users to install any software is quite bold and aggressive towards other VOIP companies. With millions of users a month coming on a daily basis to Gmail, Google now provides an easy and cheap way to make phone calls regardless of what computer the user is using. A free phone call is as readily available as the closest internet cafe, library, or free internet terminal.
