The new “consumer poll”, released December 2, 2010, reveals that 85 percent of respondents prefer Apple’s touchscreen tablet PC to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. While the Piper Jaffray survey may be good for publicity, the poll does not use anything close to scientific methodology. According to Neil Hughes at appleinsider.com, only 65 consumers were polled in the survey and the questions were about “perceived value” rather than specific differentiation between the two models.

It seems apparent that the survey only stressed “findings” that were favorable to Apple.

The methodology is just junk science. According to Hughes, “(The poll) indicated they felt the 3G-capable iPad is worth about $417 -- less than its actual price of $629, but also much higher than the $283 perceived value of the Galaxy Tab.”
